What does “interesting choice” mean in a comment?

Short answer

Usually it's polite disapproval. “Interesting” is standing in for “questionable”: on a thumbnail it often implies clickbait or a misleading image. A confident, curious reply works best: acknowledge it and ask what they would have done, which turns a jab into a conversation.

Fair enough, what would you have gone with instead?

Why these work

  • Asking for their take shows you're secure, not stung.
  • It invites a real answer, which often softens the commenter.
  • On a public video, a calm reply reads well to everyone scrolling past.

What to avoid

  • Explaining the algorithm at length, which reads as defensive.
  • Sarcasm back; it escalates in front of your audience.
  • Deleting it, which often invites more of the same.
